The international Open Science movement aims at making science more inclusive, collaborative, participative, understandable, accessible, reusable, transparent, efficient when responding to global challenges, and beneficial to everyone. Progress towards Open Science contributes to reducing gaps in the access to scientific data and information and to bridging digital, technological, gender, and knowledge divides. However, this implies transformations in scientific practices and their management. The 1stConference on Open Science in Cuba 2023 intends to identify what has been done, what universities can efficiently do in order to open Science, and how we can contribute to broaden its practice. The conference is structured in sessions that seek to create synergies on the basis of the exchange of ideas and experiences with experts from organizations and leaders of national and international projects devoted to fostering the implementation of Open Science. The conference provides a forum for researches, scholars, scientific editors, librarians, infrastructure providers and developers, scientific policymakers and other important stakeholders in the discussion on Open Science and its impact on the management of scientific publications.
