Cultural Mediations in Cuba: Language, Arts, and Literature Symposium.

May 29th to June 2nd,  School of Arts and Letters

Objectives

The symposium hopes to create a space to reflect on and discuss the codification processes of cultural expressions, based on their complex dynamics of mediation with Cuban society from its first forming and consolidating stages to the present. Cuban literature and visual arts, language or Cuban religious systems have recorded in peculiar ways the multiple oscillations between pre-Hispanic cultures, colonial society, the various republican formulations and the insertion in global scope models such as the one of the socialist camp. This heterogeneous cartography of relationships had a decisive impact on the design of our intellectual spheres, the configuration of models and discursive repertoires in dialogue with diverse cultural matrixes or the elaboration of nation and identity projects. The thematic lines of the symposium will highlight novel approaches to these connections between art, culture and society in Cuba.
